A new education project to help students with disabilities is getting some much needed help.

The Pennsylvania State Education Department has been awarded a $1.75 million grant to improve the education services for students who are deaf or blind.

“Students who are deaf and blind are a diverse group of learners who live in communities of all sizes across the commonwealth,” said Secretary Pedro Rivera. “These students’ needs are varied, and complex and require highly specialized instruction, materials, and resources that will support their continued success.”

The money will go towards the Pennsylvania Deaf-Blind project, which will help establish a system of technical assistance and resources to support schools, educators and families of those students.

The project will also evaluate education and employment outcomes for the students.

There are currently around 600 students who are deaf or blind are in schools across the commonwealth.
