The Jim Mayer Riverwalk Trail in Johnstown has a new pedestrian crossing in the Hornerstown neighborhood.

The crosswalk is the first of its kind in the area, equipped with two neon green crosswalk signs and a greenish granite “aggregate” surface on both sides highlighting the crossing to traffic. Trail users can also push a button that will light up solar powered lights.

Officials are planning to do more upgrades in the future. Those plans include new fencing, drainage upgrades, trail access improvements and cement picnic tables.

The trail is owned and managed by the Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority.
