The Claysburg Education Foundation has granted the Claysburg School District with more $170,000 for the 2018-19 school year.

The school district says the money will help the district become a leader in the area of STEM education and Technology Integration in grades K-12.

The Claysburg School District says the money will help buy and implement the nationally recognized Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Curriculum in Grades K-8. PLTW empowers students to develop and apply in-demand, transportable skills by exploring real-world challenges. Through PLTW pathways, students not only learn technical skills, but also learn to solve problems, think critically and creatively, communicate, and collaborate. PLTW also provided teachers with the training, resources, and support they need to engage students in real-world learning in group peer to peer training sessions at the school at the same time. As a result of this training, various teachers have taken on extra leadership roles volunteering to assist other teachers and staff with PLTW and technology projects.

The grant from the foundation has also helped the Claysburg Kimmel become a 1 to 1 I-Pad Apple Education School.

For the senior high school, the money will allow it to implement a new Inventionland Curriculum. Inventionland’s proven Discovery Method has unlocked innovation, critical thinking, and problem solving. Inventionland Institute provided professional development, technical/equipment solutions, training and consulting to integrate their course into our environment. The courseware, teacher resources and learning kits provide a “pull through” discovery experience. The Inventionland Course is currently offered as an elective to students in grades 9-12.

Funds have also been allocated and included by the Foundation for a Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Mentoring and support of clubs and community programs for students that includes innovative ideas for students being supported financially and implementing them through projects and interfacing throughout the community by volunteering as part of a plan to develop leadership skills.
