A Chanukah menorah grand lighting will offer solidarity to Jewish students at Penn State next week.

A month after the massacre at the Tree of Life synagogue, Jewish students and the Penn State community will come together to light a 12-foot menorah, organized by Chabad of Penn State.

The grand lighting will take place December 5 at 5 p.m. in front of Old Main. All are welcome to attend.

The President of Penn State University, Dr. Eric Barron, will also attend the menorah lighting ceremony to support the university’s Jewish students.

“In the times of the Maccabees, Jews were persecuted and killed for holding onto their religion and culture,” said Rabbi Nosson Meretsky. “They stood together against their enemies and they overcame. This year, lighting the Chanukah candles is not just a distant symbol of the past, but an act of defiance against the evil that has touched too closely on our lives. A month ago we came to Old Main to mourn. On Chanukah we will celebrate salvation and rededicate ourselves to our Jewish lives”.
