JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Police have ruled the death of a 26-year-old Blairsville woman back in 2016 to be a homicide.
Kaylene Roedel was found dead off of the Honan Avenue Hiking Trail in Johnstown.
Her body was discovered by hikers on August 7, 2016, and Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees says the condition of the body led to the delay in the ruling.
“The complexity of the investigation with the state of her body that was found in the decomposition made it very challenging for coroners office.”
The coroner’s office had to call in national experts for assistance with the body.
“We have received some of our final reports from these experts and as this point and time I am ruling the manner of her death a homicide,” says Lees.
Lees and Johnstown Police Chief Robert Johnson praised the team of detectives for never giving up on the case.
“They have been working very diligently on this case from day one,” says Lees.
“This case is now going on to be almost four years old, they haven’t stopped, they’ve been working on tirelessly for the entire time,” says Johnson.
Johnson says any information could help them with the case.
“If anyone has any information with regard to this homicide, we ask that you would call the Johnstown Police Department or contact us on our new tip-line, tip411 and we can certainly take that information forward from that point.”
