Prosecutors in Scranton have filed burglary charges against a couple they call the “modern-day Bonnie and Clyde.”

“It is literally a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde, complete with a high-speed car chase and nationwide manhunt,” said Lackawanna Co. District Attorney, Mark Powell.

Francis and Dorri Smith are accused of ransacking more than two-dozen homes and businesses in four counties. Authorities say the couple stole more than a million dollars worth of money and property.

Both were arraigned Wednesday, and are now awaiting their first court date, which is scheduled for later this month.
