Two people were still at Pittsburgh hospitals after a deadly fire in Elk County.

Authorities said a woman and a St. Marys Area High School ninth-grader died in the fire around 1 a.m. on Thursday morning near Kersey.

Police say it was accidental and appeared to be caused by an improperly installed wood burner.

We were back in Elk County on Friday and have more on how a family friend who now lives in Maryland is trying to help the family.

Police said on Thursday that two people were airlifted with injuries following the deadly fire at a house, and several people have been donating to an online account to help the family.

“I called my daughter as soon as I found out what happened because she was very close to the family and then she called me back and said she started a fundraising for them,” says fundraising page organizer’s mom Grace Daughenbaugh.

Daughebaugh says when she checked on Thursday evening, the Givesendgo.com page for the Kline/Wall/Cherry family was up to $9,000 and when we checked again on Friday it was more than $15,000.

“I donated some money also with a lot of other people and the funds are going up very good,” says Daughenbaugh.

Rhonda Kline, 44, died, along with a 15-year-old boy, according to coroner Michelle Muccio.

The boy is named on the fundraising page as Adam Cherry. Residents say dad Albert Cherry along with Gracie, 9, were taken to Pittsburgh.

Albert was listed in critical condition at last check.

“It’s just devastating because Rhonda was such a wonderful sweet person and good-hearted and she loved horses,” says Daughenbaugh.

A friend says he was feeding several horses at the home on Friday.

At Farmers National Bank in Ridgway where Kline was listed as head teller, a customer remembered her as a very sweet lady.

Employees at nearby South Street Botanical Design say she worked there a couple years ago.

“Everybody in town is talking about it, pretty sad about it, because they’re good people, good family,” says Daughenbaugh.

Daughenbaugh says she used to own the Summit Motel, and Lline would babysit her grandson.

At Ron Kline’s Car Shoppe, it was closed due to deaths in the family, according to a note on the door.

Grace and her daughter Judi Tackett of Salisbury, Md., say they’re doing their part to try to help.

Several people we talked to say they’re hoping for the best for those still recovering in the hospital.
