State Representative Frank Burns wants to remind graduating seniors of the availability of the 2019 Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship.

It’s a four year scholarship that is given out to two students who are entering post-secondary education. Applicants must be Pennsylvania high school residents with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, plan to attend a state college or university, or career school as a full time student, and demonstrate leadership and community service. Other factors include extra-curricular activities and financial need.

“This is another resource available to students and many may not know about it,” Burns said in a news release. “These scholarships are privately funded by individual and corporate donors, so no tax dollars are involved. I encourage all interested and eligible 72nd Legislative District residents to apply.”

The application includes a 500 word essay in which applicants are asked to imagine themselves as a candidate for political office. Scholarships are awarded through an independent panel of judges chosen by the Foundation for Enhancing Communities. The awarded amount to each student varies.
