BEDFORD – The bells rang out Sunday in Old Bedford Village, as a memorial service took place for a fallen cowboy. This wasn’t part of the reenactment, though.
It was for Dave Bender, a renactor who died this past September in a car crash. Bender had been coming to Old Bedford Village for the past six or seven years.
His fellow reenactors said the Old West was his favorite. Many of them shared their memories of bender during his memorial service.
“I was proud to say that Dave was the kind of kid we need in this program, pay attention to detail, know your kit, be able to talk to people and be proud of what you’re doing,” said Ken Hall, reenactor at Old Bedford Village. “Good luck, Cowboy.”
It was an emotional day for the group that was there. They said this was a little bit of closure for them.
Dave was 38 years old.
