State Police confirmed the incident involving a couple from Martinsburg is a double-murder.

Officials said local police received a call for a wellfare check on the household after snow was not cleared off their cars after the weekend storm. Police forced entry into the household where they found the victims, 30-year-old Cassandra Appleman and 49-year-old Sheldon Appleman. They then contacted State Police to handle the investigation.

According to the coroner’s report, both victims died from stab wounds, and a knife was recovered at the home where the incident took place.

Police said the household had a history of domestic violence.

They believe this is an isolated incident and no additional suspects are involved. Police said this invetsigation is ongoing.
