A McKean County man is arrested for a string of crimes through three counties, ending in Clearfield County.

According to Clearfield County District Attorney Bill Shaw, 19-year-old Tyler Newman of Gifford first stole a car in McKean County Monday night before heading to Elk County.

“We believe he went to Ridgway, abandoned the car, carjacked another car in Ridgway, came to Lawrence Township,” Shaw said.

Shaw said police were then alerted to an attempted armed robbery at the Sheetz along Clearfield-Shawville Highway in Lawrence Township, Clearfield County.

According to court documents, just after midnight, police were called to an armed robbery at the Kylertown Kwik Fill.

Court documents say Newman left the scene with around $200 to $300 in cash, a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.

He was caught around 1 a.m. by Rockview State Police off the I-80 Snow Shoe exit.

“They got a notice that went out from the Kylertown exit, the description, the type of car and within a short period of time, state police had him in custody,” Shaw said. “That’s what their job is and they’re very good at it.”

Newman is facing charges for robbery, theft by unlawful taking, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.

Shaw said Newman may have been on drugs at the time of the crime spree.

“Controlled substances always play a factor in cases like this, unfortunately that’s probably the circumstance here,” Shaw said.

When arrested, Shaw said Newman told police he killed multiple people, however police are investigating and he is not currently facing homicide charges.
