The long-running Polish Festival will return to DuBois after last year’s cancellation.
The priest at St. Michael’s says a new, enthusiastic group took over the church fundraiser.
The co-chair says that while traditions like the Reynoldsville Homecoming and fair at the DuBois Mall died off, this Labor Day weekend event should stay.
He says they sent out questionnaires to parishioners and formed a committee of volunteers.
“Just the camaraderie, the togetherness, it seems like the folks that did this in the past, they took pride in this hill, this Polish heritage,” says festival committee co-chair Matheu Smiley. “My grandmother was one of the few that helped start this as well and we just want to keep that legacy going. Another generation needed to step up.”
Last year, Smiley says some parishioners held their own private party instead.
The festival’s return is set for Sept. 4-5.
