Donald Trump had a clean sweep in all five primaries Tuesday.

Republicans in our region told us they weren’t surprised.  They said even though some see Trump as controversial, they believe that he is the change that folks want to see.

Trump doesn’t consider himself a true politician and some Cambria County voters said they like that part of him.  As voters, they’re hopeful that he can help our region and the state with trade, jobs, and crime.

As for Hillary Clinton, local Democrats said they were also looking for a candidate who can lift up the region and believe that will be Clinton.  However, some said they are nervous that if she and Trump end up being the nominees, that Trump could sway some of the voters.

A majority of both parties did say though that they believe that each party will come together to support whoever the nominee ends up being.

“I think there will either be people who jump on board or people who get left behind,”  said Republican Delegate, Joseph Sernell.  “I don’t anticipate that.  I think it’s going to be a coming together of folks and they’ll see that you can’t ignore this much momentum.”

“I think a lot of people are tired of the way things are going and some Democrats may switch over and vote for Trump, but I think as the general election goes into motion that most people will switch back and vote for Hillary,” the Democratic District Chair for Westmont Borough, David Santa told WTAJ.

Both sides said they are surprised and happy with the voter turnout and they hope it carries into the general election this fall.
