WEB EXTRA (CBS) — Nearly 50 years after the riot at the Stonewall Inn, NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill is apologizing for the department’s actions.

The uprising began when officers raided the New York City bar in June 1969.  

It is widely believed that the events at Stonewall sparked the LGBT rights movement.
