A total of $600,000 was given away Thursday to nonprofits in our region.
It is the 10th year Lee Initiatives has held their grant selection ceremony. We’re told 41 organizations received grants this year of the 99 that applied for a grant. They could apply for up to $50,000.
A committee analyzed the applications and discussed how the money will be best used locally.
“If we’re investing in a nonprofit, will the community and society in general get a return on that? We look at it a lot like a financial investment,” said Lee Initiatives CEO John Reed.
Lee Initiatives said they have given out more than 4 million dollars worth of grants in the past 10 years.
