Measles isn’t the only disease people can get when they opt out of its vaccine.
The Centers for Disease Control is reporting 151 cases of mumps in the United States as of February 28, 2019. 93 of those cases occurred in February.
The number of mumps infections don’t appear to be out of the ordinary, though. There were more than two thousand cases reported in the U.S. last year.
A mumps outbreak is currently underway at Temple University, and the Philadelphia college is reporting 11 confirmed cases and 17 probable.
Mumps and rubella can be mostly prevented by the same vaccine given for measles… Known as the MMR.
