Parties, festivals, shows, restaurants… take your pick!

You can find them all at one of the award-winning places to visit in downtown Rio de Janeiro.

Whether you’re a local or a tourist, one of the popular places to visit in Rio de Janeiro is Pier Maua. There is so much to see and do, including the Museum of Tomorrow.

“This area used to be neglected for quite awhile, for many decades, and the past ten years, more or less, it has been refurbished,” said Leonardo Menezes, content manager at Museum of Tomorrow.

Now it’s a place with new buildings, new museums, new cultural attractions. More than half a million people visited the museum last year.

“And all that without sending the people that live here in the area away,” said Menezes. “The population is staying there, so that’s very important.”

Travel Weekly named it the Best Cruise Port of South America seven years in a row, from 2009 to 2015.

“This is a new area of the downtown that has been quite overpopulated by events and cultural activities,” said Menezes. “People are coming back to the downtown area to enjoy a nice place and a historical place.”
