Investigators say the death of a two-year-old girl in 2013 was the result of shaken baby syndrome. Now a woman is accused of killing her boyfriend’s child.

Jennifer Medzie, 21, was taken into custody this morning and charged with homicide. According to court documents, Medzie was babysitting, Sophia Lauder at a home on Lauder Lane in Woodland, Clearfield County.

Medzie was 18 at the time.  Investigators say she wrote emails complaining about having to watch the child.

On November 15, 2013 Medzie told police the girl passed out in her arms and admitted to shaking her twice in a few weeks earlier.  Lauder was taken to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh where she was declared brain dead.

Medzie was denied bail.

After the arrest, WTAJ News spoke with the grandmother of the little girl.  Brandi Lauder provided the following statement:  “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the State Police and District Attorney for continuing to pursue prosecution of Jennifer Medzie. We are truly grateful that we are finally moving forward with this case.”
