A court ruling on Tuesday could affect plans for a major medical merger in Pennsylvania. Penn State Hershey Medical Center and PinnacleHealth have been trying to combine their health systems for about 3 years.

J.C. Blair Hospital in Huntingdon is an affiliate of Pinnacle, which is headquartered in the Harrisburg area, and could be affected by a potential merger, but a decision by a U.S. Appeals Court  could continue to block the partnership.

It grants the Federal Trade Commission and the State Attorney General’s office an injunction preventing the integration of  the two health systems.

The two sides say they’ll review the decision and determine their next move.
