An area healthcare system wants to buy its own medical college. Officials from Geisinger Health System and the Commonwealth Medical College announced on Thursday that they’ll join forces.
Geisinger plans to purchase the school, based in Scranton, pending approval from local, state, and accrediting agencies.The health system says the move will improve the learning experience for medical students and help fill a tremendous need for physicians, in regions served by Geisinger.
Commonwealth Medical College, which graduated its first class in 2013, is one of the country’s newest fully accredited medical colleges, with campuses in Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Williamsport, and Sayre.
