Rayana Fetters said she’s “happy” after receiving her new arm on Thursday and sometimes a simple is all that is needed. Little Rayana received her new arm with the help of a Northern Bedford High School senior.

Rayana’s father, Tony Fetters, said, “There is a high school girl thinking about a child who lost her arm. Thinking about a way to put her life back to normal, or as close as normal as we can get. And we appreciate it, very much.”

The new arm was a part of a senior project by Xiara Long. The project quickly became more than just a project.

Xiara said, “She kind of just looked up at me and just the look of pure enjoyment spread over her face. That is when it became more than just a graduation requirement. It was just something I could do to help that little girl sitting across the table.”

The arm was 3-D printed and put together by Xiara in order to give Rayana more movement and ability. Rayana lost her right arm right after learning how to ride her bike and now with the new arm, she hopes to get back on. That was Xiara’s plan.

She explained, “It makes me feel like I’m really helping her. I feel like we take a lot of things for granted when we have two functioning hands and arms and just the little things that she’s going to be really happy that she can do.”

Rayana’s first prosthetic was only able to use her finger and thumb. Now with the new arm she’ll be able to do normal activities that we may take for granted.
