A Corsica man was convicted of animal cruelty after 13 horses were seized from his property.
Leonard Hughes, 44, was found guilty at a summary trial that took around nine hours on last Wednesday.
He was ordered to serve about a year in jail, two more years on probation, and pay $10,000 in fines.
The horses were taken in September. Hughes still has a chance to appeal.
