SCI Huntingdon is reporting the death of an inmate.
 
Corrections officers discovered inmate 43-year old James Rugar unconscious in his cell Jan. 11, during a routine check of his cell. Officers provided immediate emergency first aid until medical personnel arrived.
 
Rugar was transferred to J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, but was pronounced dead by a doctor. 
 
An investigation will be done by Pennsylvania’s State Police Barracks at Huntingdon. The official cause of death will be determined by the Huntingdon County Coroner’s Office.
 
Rugar was serving 23 years and 3 months to 62 years for a predominant offense of robbery, with serious bodily injury on a Lackawanna County conviction, effective Jan. 31, 2006. He had been at SCI Huntingdon since Feb. 4, 2016.
