Two students were arrested and charged for terroristic threats against a Jefferson County school.

According to police, the students had plans for a shooting at Brookville Junior Senior High School to take place Monday.

Brookville Police Chief Vince Markle said a student reported the threat to an officer, who is also a varsity coach at the school, at his house Friday night.

Markle said because of that report, two students were taken to the station for interviews.

He said those interviews helped police determine it was a legitimate threat.

The students are in a juvenile detention center. They’re charged with terroristic threats, harassment and disorderly conduct.

Markle said having police in the school as resource officers and coaches builds relationships that encourage students to come forward.

“They’re getting used to us being there, we’re building friendships with these kids, we’re joking around with them, and these are the type of results you get when your build a rapport with students,” Markle said.

The school superintendent said she believes the school police officers are working to build positive relationships, and commends the student for reporting the threat.
